Storage groups are a collection of devices that are stored on the storage system. An application, a server, or a collection of servers use them.
About this task
This procedure explains how to nondisruptively convert a stand-alone storage group to a cascaded storage group. Once completed, the original storage group serves as the parent to a new child storage group.
In eNAS operating environments, you can also perform this operation from Storage Groups for File page ().
Before you begin:

To convert storage groups:

Select the storage group, click

Type a new name over the system-suggested child storage group name.
Storage group names must be unique from other storage groups on the system and cannot exceed 64 characters. Only alphanumeric characters, underscores ( _ ), and (-) are allowed. Storage group names are case-insensitive.

For storage groups where the host I/0 limits have already been set (see
Host I/O limits dialog box), click the
Set on Parent radio button (the default) to set the host I/O limits for the parent storage group or click the
Set on Child radio button to set the host I/O limits for the child storage group.

Do one of the following:

Run Now to perform the operation now.
- Expand
Run Now and click
